A Message to Our Community

First we want to thank you for all the support you have given us over the years since we first opened our doors.  Thanks for your generosity in donating items that you no longer needed or used, and thank you for shopping at Christian Crossing Thrift Shop.

We know that other organizations are also eager to receive your donations.  When you have items to donate, please consider that items you donate to Christian Crossing Thrift Shop help the community in the following ways:

  1. Individuals and families that are in critical need of items as referred to us by the various social service agencies and churches are given those items for free.  Through the years we have given away thousands of items to individuals and families who could not afford even our nominal prices.
  2. The profit we make from the items we sell enables us to provide financial assistance in behalf of individuals and families in the community who are in crisis situations as referred to us by Community Action or the County Health Department.  We have been able to provide between $100,000 and $150,000 each year to help pay for items such as electricity, security deposits, rent, doctor bills, mortgage payments, taxes, dental expenses, etc.  We also make cash payments to other organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, the Dove Center, “It’s in the Bag” and Gortner Garment Ministries that help those in crisis situations.
  3. Because all of our workers are volunteers, our overhead is extremely low.  That maximizes the amount of financial support we are able to provide for those in crisis situations.

Your donations will enable us to continue and to expand our mission which is to “improve the quality of life for those in our community with limited means.”

We accept any home furnishings, major appliances, furniture, kitchenware, clothing, books, toys, sporting equipment, etc. that are in good condition.

Please drop off items at our loading dock during open hours (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 10 to 1,  and Wednesdays 2 to 5). If you are unable to bring the items, please call the main telephone number (301-334-6339) and speak to a volunteer or leave a message.   Someone will contact you to inquire as to what items you have to donate and if these are items that we can accept.  Clothing items must be clean and placed in 13 gallon bags.

You can support our ministry and our community by donating items, by shopping at our Thrift Shop and by volunteering to work at our Shop.
